Terms of Service
The short version
- Chalkroll is a free tool that helps you, a tutor aged 18 or over, keep track of students, lessons and fees.
- What you record about your students is yours, stays on your phone, and is your responsibility — including getting parents' consent where needed.
- Your agreements with families, including fees and payments, are between you and them. Chalkroll only helps you keep track.
- Keep backups: if your phone is lost or reset, we can't recover data we never had.
- You can stop using Chalkroll and delete your account at any time.
1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Chalkroll, an app made and run by an independent developer (“Chalkroll”, “we”, “us”). They apply to the Chalkroll app and the chalkroll.com website. By creating an account or using Chalkroll, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Chalkroll.
2. Who can use Chalkroll
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, and able to enter into a binding agreement. Chalkroll is made for tutors and teachers who manage their own lessons. It isn't meant for children, and students don't need their own accounts.
3. Your account
- Give accurate information when you sign up and keep your email address up to date — we use it to send sign-in codes.
- Keep your password and your phone secure. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
- An account is for one person. Don't share it or sign in to someone else's.
- Tell us at admin@chalkroll.com if you think someone else has used your account.
4. The service and its price
Chalkroll is free to use today. We may offer paid features in the future. If we do, we will explain the price and terms clearly before you buy, and features you already use for free won't be taken away without notice. Purchases made through Google Play also follow Google Play's terms.
5. Your students' information
You decide what to record about your students and their families, and it is saved on your phone, not on our servers. You control that information and you are responsible for it. In particular, you agree to:
- record only what you need to run your lessons;
- tell parents or guardians what you keep about their child, and get their consent where the law requires it — especially for children;
- keep your phone locked and your backup files safe; and
- follow the privacy and data protection laws that apply to you.
If you turn on Google Calendar sync, or share messages or backup files, that information goes where you send it — for example to your Google account or a chat app — and those services' terms apply.
6. You and the families you teach
Chalkroll is a record-keeping tool. We are not a tutoring agency, marketplace, employer or payment service. Your lessons, schedules, fees, payments, refunds and any disagreements are between you and the families you teach. Amounts and messages in Chalkroll are based on what you enter; check them before you send them.
7. Your data and backups
Your teaching records belong to you. Because they are stored only on your phone, they can be lost if your phone is lost, broken or reset, or if you uninstall the app or clear its data. Use the backup feature and keep your backup files somewhere safe. If you lock a backup with a password and forget it, nobody — including us — can open it.
8. Using Chalkroll properly
Please don't:
- use Chalkroll for anything illegal, or to harass, threaten or deceive anyone;
- record information about people that you have no right to keep;
- try to get into accounts or systems that aren't yours, or overload, attack or disrupt our servers or email;
- copy, modify, reverse engineer or resell the app, except where the law allows it; or
- use automated means to create accounts or send requests.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules or put others at risk. Where it's reasonable, we will tell you first.
9. Other services
You can sign in with Google or Facebook, add lessons to your calendar, and send messages through other apps. Those services are run by other companies under their own terms and privacy policies, and we aren't responsible for them.
10. Our app and your licence
Chalkroll, its design and its content belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on your own devices for your own tutoring. The app includes open-source software under its own licences. You can see them in the app by tapping the app version at the bottom of Settings.
11. Changes and availability
We keep improving Chalkroll, so features may change. We try to keep sign-in working, but it may sometimes be unavailable, for example during maintenance. If we ever stop offering Chalkroll, we will tell you in advance where we can. The information on your phone stays usable in the app and in your backups.
12. No guarantees
We make Chalkroll with care, but it is provided “as is” and “as available”. As far as the law allows, we don't promise that it will be free of errors or always available, or that it suits every purpose. Chalkroll doesn't give legal, tax or financial advice. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the consumer protection laws of the country where you live.
13. Limits on our liability
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost income or lost data, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for Chalkroll in the 12 months before the claim (which is nothing while Chalkroll is free).
These limits don't apply to liability that can't be limited by law, including for fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or for our obligations under data protection law.
14. Ending your use
You can stop using Chalkroll at any time and delete your account in the app (tap your profile picture at the top of the Today screen, then Account → Delete account) or as described on our account deletion page. Deleting your account deletes your account information on our servers and the Chalkroll data on that phone. Backup files you saved elsewhere are not deleted — you can delete them yourself.
If we close your account under section 8, these terms stop applying except the parts that are meant to continue, such as sections 12, 13 and 16.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Chalkroll changes or the law requires. We will update the version and date above. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app and ask you to agree to the new version before you continue. If you don't agree, you can delete your account.
16. Problems and disputes
If you have a problem with Chalkroll, please contact us first — most issues can be solved quickly. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the law of the country where you live to bring a claim in its courts, or to complain to a consumer protection or data protection authority.
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms, with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about Chalkroll. They are published in English and Korean with the same content; if the two versions ever differ, the English version applies.
